According to the recent ASPS figures, dermal filler injections currently rank as the number two non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the US after Botox.
Several types of medical spa dermal fillers with different ingredients and marginally different applications for facial rejuvenation are available today. But the injectable procedure to administer the filler gel into the affected facial sites largely remains the same.
At the time of pre-operative consultation, the dermatologist will discuss the steps involved in the filler injection procedure. Patients should feel free to ask questions about the potential discomfort, local anesthetic, procedure time, side effects and recovery in order to make an informed decision. The perspicacious and committed Dr. Gregg Reger of Reger Vein and Skin Specialists provides dermal fillers to patients in Spring, TX, The Woodlands, and other cities and suburbs in the magnificent and growing state of Texas.
Preparation for the Treatment
As a first step, the dermatologist will determine the patient’s candidacy for a particular cosmetic filler injection procedure. Once the patient is agreeable to the choice of the filler treatment, the provider will create a customized injection plan to meet the specific facial skin volumizing needs of the patient. As a preparatory measure, the patient will be instructed to stop smoking and avoid using blood thinners or NSAIDs for a few days prior to the injections.
Allergy testing will not be necessary if the patient chooses a non-animal based filler such as Juvederm, Restylane or Radiesse. Patients with a history of skin allergies may be required to go through an allergy test.
On their visit to the medical spa for filler injections, the patient should not wear any makeup. Following the treatment, the patient will be able to apply makeup and resume their skin care routine as per the advice of the dermatologist.
Facial filler injections usually come packed in sterile, ready to use syringes. Needle sizes can differ according to the density of the filler gel to be injected. If the filler has a smooth gel consistency, it can be administered using thinner needles. The dermatologist will need to apply less pressure to deliver the gel to the targeted tissue layers.
Prior to the filler treatment, the medical spa treatment provider will apply a topical anesthetic to numb the targeted injection sites. Thereafter, the provider will inject the gel in precise volumes into the mid to deep dermis depending on the skin laxity and the amount of lift required. It will take about 20 minutes to complete the injection procedure. The profound and proven Dr. Reger receives patients from Spring, TX, The Woodlands, and communities and neighborhoods in the economic powerhouse in the largest state in continental US for dermal filler injections.
Retreatment and Recovery
The patient will be instructed not to rub or massage the injection sites for a day. Sun protection is important for a few weeks, and the dermatologist may suggest the patient to use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Makeup with alcohol content may have to be avoided for a few days.
If a few facial lines or depressions were missed in the first treatment, the patient may have a follow up filler treatment after a few weeks. The sustainability of results will depend on the choice of filler and the degree of facial skin laxity.
