Although spider veins and varicose veins have different causes and produce different symptoms, both can usually be treated with sclerotherapy. After sclerotherapy treatment, Juzo® compression therapy is often prescribed for optimal results.
What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure that is designed to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins. It is carried out by injecting a special solution directly into the vein. The ingredients in the solution affect the lining of the vein that is being treated. The irritation leads to the vein collapsing and eventually sticking to itself. Over time, a blood clot is formed, the collapsed vessel builds scar tissue and it eventually fades away from view.
Sclerotherapy is not a new therapy. It dates back to the 1930s. The best way to determine whether you are a good candidate for this treatment is to talk to our team of professionals at Reger Vein and Skin Specialists.
What is a Compression Stocking?
Compression stockings are a specially designed hosiery that can be used to either prevent vein disorders or can be used in conjunction with vein treatments. Most compression stockings are made from elastic, and they are worn around the leg. They are designed to compress the treated limb, thereby reducing the diameter of distended veins. They encourage blood flow and improve the effectiveness of valves in your blood vessels. They can relieve pain and aching as well.
Juzo® compression stockings are made of a stronger elastic than traditional dress hosiery. They produce pressure in a gradually decreasing manner. The maximum amount of pressure is applied on the ankle, with the pressure getting less as the stocking runs up the leg. The result is increased arterial pressure, improved blood flow and a reduction of blood pooling in the feet.
The Benefits of Juzo® Compression Therapy After Sclerotherapy
Juzo® compression therapy can help you after a sclerotherapy procedure for multiple reasons. First, the stockings help to keep the treated blood vessels collapsed. In other words, it helps to make the procedure a success.
A second reason why you’d want to wear compression stockings after this procedure is that they promote healing. You heal faster, and so you’re able to get back to living your normal life quicker.
Another reason is that compression stockings prevent deep blood clots. Deep blood clots are very dangerous and could negatively affect your health. Finally, they prevent the blood from getting stagnant in your leg.
