What Causes Acne?
According to studies by the American Academy of Dermatology, acne is currently the most common skin condition in the United States. It is characterized by different types of blemishes:
- Papules: Small, red, raised bumps typically caused by infected or inflamed hair follicles
- Pustules: Small red pimples that contain pus at the ends
- Nodules: Bumps underneath the skin that are often solid and painful
- Cysts: Large lumps that contain pumps and are typically painful
While it is common for adolescents to develop this condition during puberty, most acne occurs as a result of:
- An excess of natural oil being produced by skin follicles
- An accumulation of dead skin cells in the pores
- A buildup of bacteria in the pores
How is Acne Treated?
These various types of acne do not all respond to the same kinds of treatments, and at Reger Vein and Skin Specialists, we will provide a thorough examination of your skin and choose the treatment that is best for you.
IPL Photofacials for Acne
IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, is a light-based therapy that penetrates below the skin surface and targets redness and acne at the source without damaging healthy skin or exacerbating the condition. This is often referred to as a “lunch hour procedure” for its quick, convenient treatment time, and most men and women are able to return to work immediately after their session.
This unique blend of powerful ingredients is safe and gentle for the skin and is formulated for all skin types. This light to medium peel will begin helping the skin to slough off within a matter of two days, exfoliating the skin and helping to clear acne from the inside out.
For some milder instances of acne, Dr. Reger and our medical team may recommend microdermabrasion to help gently exfoliate the surface and clean out the clogged pores that can cause acne. A helpful standalone treatment, microdermabrasion can also be combined with other treatments to create maximum results.
