Spider Vein Removal
Spider veins are characterized by single or clusters of red or purpose veins that most commonly develop around the outer thighs, knees, shins and ankles. At our office in The Woodlands, we utilize quick and efficient sclerotherapy procedures to target spider veins and eliminate them from the body using natural processes. While spider veins are not a cause for medical concern, many men and women choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons to feel more confident in their appearance.
Areas that Can Be Treated
Spider vein treatment, which addresses the cosmetic concern of visible, dilated blood vessels just beneath the skin, can be applied to several areas of the face and body where these veins typically emerge. This non-invasive or minimally invasive treatment aims to reduce the appearance of these veins, improving skin appearance and confidence. The areas that can benefit from spider vein treatment include:
- Calves, Thighs, Ankles, Feet
- Face, Chest
- Arms and Hands
How Does Sclerotherapy Work?
During this procedure, a sterile, FDA-approved sclerosing solution is injected into the targeted veins. This solution disrupts the inner lining of the vessels, causing them to stick together and close. This permanently seals the vein and reroutes the blood through healthier veins. New veins can grow quickly and easily whenever they are needed, but old, damaged veins do not disappear without treatment. Following sclerotherapy, the treated veins are kept closed for several weeks by wearing compression hose. The smallest veins disappear rapidly, while larger veins are more gradually absorbed by the body through natural processes. Most of the treated veins will no longer be visible about 4-6 weeks after a sclerotherapy treatment.

Are There Any Side Effects?
Sclerosing agents are formulated to permanently seal spider veins without causing any complications or side effects for most men and women. One common complication is occasional bruising. Patients are able to return to normal acitivites after treatment, and a daily walking regimen may be recommended by Dr. Reger to aid in maintaining good circulation as the body works to remove the treated veins. If you are participating in a regular exercise program, you can continue to exercise on the same day as your treatment.
Am I a Good Candidate for Spider Vein Removal?
